Understanding Majors, Minors and Electives
Your
major is the focal point of your degree and most of your courses will be
related to your major. If you are taking a double major then your courses will
be divided between them, along with a few electives. A minor is a secondary
specialization so if you select a major/minor programme then a small portion of
your courses will be related to your minor. Some programmes include the minor
and for others you can declare a minor at the end of your first year. An
elective is a course that is not required for your programme, but that you
choose to do because of your interest. Most programmes require or allow a
certain number of electives to meet the credits required for the programme.
